Will my information be kept confidential?

Yes. Privacy and confidentiality are fundamental to our practice. Everything you discuss with your psychologist is kept confidential and will not be shared outside the service without your consent. We maintain secure records, and your information is protected by ethics and law.

There are only a few specific exceptions to confidentiality, which are standard across all psychological services: if we ever believe you or someone else (like your child) is at serious risk of harm, or if we are required by a court subpoena, we may need to share relevant information with appropriate authorities or professionals to ensure safety. If such a situation ever arises, we would wherever possible discuss it with you first.

Additionally, if you were referred by a GP under a Mental Health Care Plan, your psychologist will send periodic letters to your doctor to update them on your progress (this is part of Medicare’s requirement to ensure coordinated care). Those letters contain a summary of how you’re doing and the plan for your treatment.

Aside from these situations, nothing you say leaves the therapy room. We want you to feel safe to talk openly, knowing your personal stories stay private.
