What kinds of issues do you help with?
We specialize in the perinatal period, which means we support parents through a wide range of pregnancy and early parenting-related emotional challenges (typically until your child is 4 years old).
Common issues we help with include:
Depression and Anxiety (antenatal or postnatal): feelings of persistent sadness, low mood, excessive worry or panic during pregnancy or after birth.
Postnatal Depression (PND): deeper or longer-lasting depression after having a baby – this affects up to 1 in 7 mothers and often needs professional support
Parent-Infant Bonding: difficulties feeling connected with your baby, or concerns about your attachment and parenting confidence.
Relationship Strain: conflict with your partner or family during the adjustment period, or needing help communicating and sharing the load. (We offer couples counselling for perinatal relationship issues as well.)
Adjustment to Parenthood: feeling overwhelmed with the changes a new baby brings, “baby blues” that don’t ease up, or identity changes as you become a parent.
Birth Trauma: distressing or traumatic birth experiences that leave emotional scars (including PTSD symptoms related to childbirth)
Pregnancy Loss and Grief: coping with miscarriage, stillbirth, or infant loss – the grief can be overwhelming, and we provide a safe space to navigate those emotions
Fertility Challenges: emotional stress of infertility, IVF, or difficulty conceiving – our Family Forming Support service is tailored to individuals and couples in this journey.
Other Emotional Difficulties: such as guilt, anger, intrusive thoughts, or self-esteem issues related to parenting, as well as anxiety about pregnancy or birth, or managing previous mental health conditions during the perinatal period.
If you’re not sure whether your specific concern “counts,” please know that if it’s bothering you, it’s important.
You can always reach out to us to discuss – if we aren’t the right service for your needs, we’ll help guide you to appropriate support. In general, our psychologists are experienced with all aspects of perinatal mental health, from the joys to the challenges of having a baby.
More information about our services can be found on our Common Issues page.
