Do you offer support for partners or other family members?

Yes, we recognize that partners and families are affected by perinatal challenges too. While our name is “Mums Matter,” we support all parents and partners.

If you’re a dad, non-birthing partner, or other caregiver struggling with the adjustment, anxiety or depression, you are welcome here – we have clinicians experienced in supporting fathers and partners as well as mothers. We also encourage involving partners in therapy when appropriate.

For example, some couples choose to attend sessions together (either occasionally or regularly) to work on communication, share experiences, or address any relationship stresses related to the new baby.
Our psychologists can provide relationship counselling focused on the postpartum period, which many couples find helpful for strengthening their bond and teamwork. Even in individual therapy, we can (with your permission) invite your partner or a family member for a joint session if it would be beneficial for your healing.

We view the wellbeing of new parents as a family affair, and we are attentive to the relationship dynamics and how each member of the family is coping. If your partner is not directly involved in your sessions but needs support themselves, we can refer them to appropriate resources (for instance, we might connect dads to specialist fatherhood support or suggest they speak to their GP about getting help). In sum: partners are not only welcome but often play a key role in recovery, so we’re here for them too.
