Are there any rebates or coverage for clinical sessions?

Are there any rebates or coverage for clinical sessions?

Yes. Medicare rebates are the most common way to reduce the cost of therapy.

With a Mental Health Care Plan referral, Medicare will rebate all fees for our bulk-billed sessions for up to 10 sessions per calendar year. We directly bulk-bill this rebate for your sessions (so you don’t pay upfront) for the first 20 sessions. If you continue beyond the bulk-billed sessions, you can still claim the Medicare rebate for each session – we will charge the session fee, and then Medicare refunds you part of that cost within a couple of days.
We will inform you of the rebate amount applicable to your psychologist and any out of pocket fees if you are ineligible or completed a Mental Health Care Plan.
The exact rebate amount depends on the type of psychologist you see (approximately $90 for a General Registered Psychologist or $130 for a Clinical Psychologist). Please see our fees page for more details.

Private health insurance may also provide rebates for psychology sessions as an alternative to Medicare. If you have private extras cover, check with your insurer about your mental health benefits.

Please note: You cannot use both Medicare and private health rebates for the same session – only one or the other. We can help provide invoices to make it as easy as possible for you (but due to the low cost nature of our practice, we cannot process claims for you).
